Unveiling of the Church Marker & Pipe Organ October 28,2009




On July 31,2001,the National Museum by virtue of the powers vested in it by Presidential decree No.374 dated the 10th day of January 1974 declares through Museum Declaration No. 2-2001 Bacong Parish Church of St. Augustine de Hippo as National Treasure of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Church was built on March 1866 by the Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR)in the Island out of local materials and volcanic stones, and is best preserved by the entire Province of Negros Oriental having the tallest bellfry in the country that
measures 27 meters and 30 centmeters.

One of the Prominent features of the church that has been considered as its crowning
piece is the Pipe Organ bought by the parishioners on March 28.1894 from Zaragoza, Spain.
